The Certificate section is used to store certificates that are used for authentication. The primary usage is for the portal app to authenticate to SharePoint, as in connecting a service to a SharePoint list or library.
Certificate Creation
When uploading a new cert the following must be defined:
- Title – Provide the certificate a name
- File – Upload the pfx file type of the certificate
- Password – The password for the certificate
- Expiration – The desired expiration date. This field is optional and can be left blank
Entra ID Authentication
If the certificate is being used to authenticate to SharePoint, such as a document library or list, an Entra ID app registration must be created.
API Permissions
The app registration must grant access to SharePoint.
Certificates and Secrets
The certificate that was stored in the portal application must be uploaded to the Entra ID application registration.
